   Scripture tells us that a true friend is always loyal. (Proverbs ) David and Jonathan are a perfect picture of this. Before David killed Goliath, Samuel anointed David as the next future king of Israel. After David killed Goliath, Jonathan basically adopted David .

   Apr 27,  · Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David because he loved David as his own soul; as himself. Jonathan gave David his robe and his garments (his armor (1 Sam ). This was a confirmation and a prophetic symbol that the kingship of Saul would not pass on to his son Jonathan, but to David.
