The Cold War was the subject of many 80s synthpop songs, among which "Enola Gay" is one of the best known. The other posters who point out the obvious reference to the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima ("Little Boy"), and the evocation of the imagery of a mother and her child as an ironic metaphor for the relationship between the bomber and the bomb, are all correct.

"Enola Gay" is an anti-war song by the British synthpop group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD). It was the only single from the band's album, Organisation. Written by Andy McCluskey, it addresses the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August , during the final stages of World War II, and directly mentions three components of the attack: the Boeing B Superfortress Enola Gay.

A few weeks ago, I discovered that Urgh A Music War had finally, FINALLY been released on DVD. I snapped it up and watched it for the first time since probably, I dunno, Glorious. Surprisingly, the one segment out of the whole movie that really got to me was OMD performing Enola Gay/5(49).
